1/ Choosing the right teat

a) Teat material:

Rubber (or latex) is a natural, flexible material that is preferred by a large majority of mothers.

For babies that have trouble feeding, or for a newborn, this softness is an advantage.

However, some babies may not like the taste and the smell of rubber, and others may be allergic to latex.

Silicone teats are chosen for their transparency, which is associated with cleanliness. It has the advantage of being completely odourless and is more resistant when regularly sterilised.

b) Shape of teat:

Round-ended teats are usually fitted with a 3-speed flow control (visible at the base of the teat).

These 3 speeds enable you to regulate the feeding speed to match your baby´s appetite (speed 1 = slow flow rate, speed 2 = medium flow rate, etc.).

Teats with physiologic ends have been specially designed to ensure that your child´s jaw develops properly. You can identify them by the special type of hole on the teat, for milk or soup.

- A few tips:

- sterilise the teat in boiling water before you use it for the first time

- replace the teat as soon as it shows signs of wear (rubber opaque, teat chewed, etc.)

- never pierce the teat yourself

2/ Choosing the right bottle

- Glass is usually the material chosen for baby´s first few months. It is completely odourless and resists daily sterilisation well.

- Lightweight, unbreakable plastic bottles prove to be very practical when your child wants to hold it himself. Some models have adaptable handles to help baby hold the bottle more easily.

- A few tips:

If you sterilise your bottles in the microwave, you only need to buy 3 or 4: this is a very quick method – 3 bottles in 8 minutes – which you can repeat a few times a day. If you use another method, then you will need 7 - 8 bottles so that you can sterilise all the day´s bottles in one go.

Our tips
