A few tips to make your outing a success

You don´t go on a trip (or even for a walk) with a baby without taking a few basic precautions…

Travelling:
Be particularly attentive during the summer, if you are travelling with your baby in the car.
A baby gets dehydrated much more quickly than an adult: remember to pack lots of water and regularly give your child a drink.
Avoid driving during the hottest hours of the day, and opt for night-time journeys if possible (when the whole family can sleep). Always make sure you stop every 2-3 hours to let baby stretch his legs, give him a snack or change him.
Fit a sun-blind on the baby’s side of the car so that he isn´t bothered by the sun.
It is not advisable to go on a long car journey in winter with a baby under 12 months. You might get stuck for hours due to poor weather conditions! If you cannot avoid it, then remember to bring blankets and more food and drink than is necessary for the journey, in case of any unforeseen incident.
Remember that children should never be left alone in the car, day or night, winter or summer!

A few tips:
You can use a bottle-warmer that connects to the cigarette lighter on your car. This means your baby will always have his bottle or food warmed to the right temperature.
There are also insulating pouches available in which you can keep water warm (or cool) for 4-5 hours. Do not prepare your baby´s bottle in advance, as the formula milk does not keep well. Take a dosing container with you in which you can put the formula powder. Add the formula powder just before you give the bottle to baby, to avoid bacteria from forming.
Never feed your child while the car is moving, as he may regurgitate or feel sick…

Out for a walk:
Even when you are out for a walk in the park or visiting friends on Sunday afternoon, there are certain accessories that you should always keep close at hand:

Nappies and a clean towel to lay baby down on so you can change him properly.
Wipes or a wet flannel
Paper tissues or a roll of kitchen paper
A water mister
His comforter or (and) his soother
A bib
One or two pots of baby food and his favourite spoon + a few biscuits
Everything you need to prepare one or two bottles (mineral water + formula powder + bottles + insulating pouch)
His favourite toy

When you have an appointment with the paediatrician or another specialist, always bear in mind that you may be there longer than expected (sometimes one or two hours wait)!

If you stick to these few rules, baby will soon become a great traveller!
